Almost everyone has had to deal with ants at one time or another. Lots of us have had a hard time finding the best way to keep ants out of our homes for good. Fortunately there are simple steps you can take to keep the ants at bay.
The best strategy is to prevent ants from ever entering your home. There are many different insecticides for sale which are designed to be used outside. You should put an application of these around the perimeter of your home if you frequently see ants inside.
You also want to apply a bead of caulk to any cracks in your walls and move your trash can away from an exterior wall. Most ants are attracted to sweet tasting food. Although fat and protein have also been known to attract certain ants. If you home has an ant problem you never want to leave food out. You will need to store any food in either the fridge or a sealed container. Ants are less likely to enter your home if they do not smell food.
Keeping the crumbs off your kitchen and pantry floors and cleaning your kitchen countertops will also prevent ants from coming in. If you do all of the above and still have ants coming in then you need to look at other methods for preventing them.
It is best to start with natural ant products from around your home before you go to buy chemicals that could be harmful to your family’s health. There are many every day products around your home you can use to repel ants that do not contain harmful chemicals. Some of the best things you can try include black pepper, vinegar, instant grits, mint tea, paprika, baby powder and spices to get rid of ants.
If none of the natural remedies work you should then look at other alternatives. Always ready the labels of any chemicals you buy to remove ants, especially if you have pets or children. If you try everything and still have ants it may be time to call an exterminator.
